EVANSTON, Ill. — Northwestern landed defensive end Devin O’Rourke as well as several other highly touted prospects on the first day of the early signing period.

The 6-foot-6, 241-pound O’Rourke grew up about 45 miles from Northwestern in Mokena and led Lincoln Way-East to the Illinois 5A state championship this year. On Twitter, coach Pat Fitzgerald calls him “one of the best players in Illinois and best defensive ends in the country.”

Defensive lineman Wyatt Blake of suburban Crystal Lake, linebacker Khalid Jones of Greenville, South Carolina, and quarterback Jason Whittaker of Rockford, Illinois, also signed. Northwestern added 16 scholarship players and two preferred walk-ons Wednesday.
