Driver killed in accident, State Road 37 closed


A motorist was killed on Tuesday afternoon in an accident on State Road 37 at Smith Valley Road.

A Cadillac was westbound on Smith Valley Road, ran the light at State Road 37 and hit a northbound semi-tractor trailer, according to the preliminary investigation by the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office. The driver of the car was killed, but the person’s name had not been released on Tuesday afternoon as emergency crews worked to identify the person and notify the family, the sheriff’s office said.

The crash happened just before 1 p.m. Northbound State Road 37 has been closed since the accident while the investigation and clean-up continues.

The semi was being driver by David G. Harvey, 40, of Fort Branch.

Crews from the White River Fire Department, Indiana State Police and Bargersville Police Department are assisting at the scene.
