Senior gift program in need of sponsors

A program that gives gifts to hundreds of seniors each Christmas is still looking for sponsors.

Johnson County Senior Services hosts an annual gift giving program called “Seniors Still Believe.” Last year, the program gave gifts to 650 seniors, according to a news release.

The need has grown, and the program is expecting to give gifts to more seniors this year, director Kim Smith said.

Organizers are still looking for about 150 sponsors, she said. People can help by picking a name off one of the trees located at area Kroger stores, the release said.

Each tree has the names of local seniors and a list of possible gifts. Those gifts include warm no-slip socks, soft blankets, word search books, snacks, toiletries, cleaning products, pet food and gift cards, Smith said.

Sponsors can buy the gifts and return them to the Kroger store to be picked up for delivery. The items need to be returned by Tuesday to the store or dropped off at the senior services office, located at 731 S. State St., Franklin, she said.

The trees are located at the following Kroger stores:

  • 5961 S. State Road 135, Greenwood
  • 2200 Independence Drive, Greenwood
  • 8745 S. Emerson Ave., Indianapolis
  • 3100 Meridian Parke Drive, Greenwood
  • 970 N. Morton St., Franklin
