College update – December 9

Former Indian Creek boys basketball player Dylan Phair has been a major factor in Indiana Tech’s fast start.

The junior guard averages 13.5 points and shoots 90 percent from the free-throw stripe. Phair led the NAIA Division II No. 5 Warriors (8-2) with 17 points in an 83-65 loss at No. 2 Cornerstone.

INDIAN CREEK

Cincinnati Christian guard Tim Abel is averaging 3.4 points a game during his freshman season, with his best effort to date a 10-point performance against Johnson University.

GREENWOOD

Sophomore guard Holly Hoopingarner played a big role for IUPUI in women’s basketball as she came off the bench to score 10 points, grab three rebounds and dish two assists in a victory over Memphis. She added 10 points, two boards and four assists in a rout of Miami of Ohio.

Olivet Nazarene women’s basketball player Jae Taft finished with three points and two assists in victories over both Cardinal Stritch and Trinity Lutheran.

CENTER GROVE

Jovan Swann’s career-best six tackles weren’t enough for the Stanford football team as it lost to USC, 31-28, in the Pac-12 championship game. The Cardinal (9-4) next plays Dec. 28 in the Valero Alamo Bowl in San Antonio against TCU.

Regan Wentland finished with nine points, two rebounds, three blocks and three steals in Indiana State’s loss to Illinois-Chicago in women’s basketball. The junior wing also had two points and a steal in the Sycamores’ win against Missouri S&T.

Junior guard Jessica Norris scored 16 points to go along with seven rebounds and two assists as Holy Cross College defeated Robert Morris (Illinois). In a loss to NAIA Division II No. 7 St. Francis (Illinois), she had five points, a rebound and an assist.

Lipscomb guard Lauren Rau finished with a team-high 17 points to along with four rebounds and four assists in her team’s 91-59 loss to Belmont.

Freshman Emma LeMasters came off the bench for four points in DePauw’s 75-41 home win against Allegheny.

Guard Allison Utterback had three points and a rebound as Lewis defeated Bellarmine, 81-55.

Ali Line, a junior blocker, helped lead the Illinois State volleyball team to the National Invitational Tournament, where it defeated IUPUI and lost to host Green Bay in four sets to complete the season with a 22-13 record. Line had six kills and a dig in the victory and followed it up with seven kills against Green Bay.

WHITELAND

Sidney Crowe scored eight points to go along with three rebounds for the St. Francis women’s basketball team in its home loss to Marian. The freshman guard had three points and an assist in her team’s victory against Goshen.

FRANKLIN

University of Indianapolis wrestler D.J. Smith placed fifth in the 145-pound division at the annual Little State Open at Manchester University.

Senior guard Tara Parmer scored a total of 18 points for St. Mary-of-the-Woods in losses to Rose-Hulman and IU Southeast.
