MONTPELIER, Vt. — After decades in Vermont governmental service, the commissioner of the state Department of Motor Vehicles say he’s retiring.

Robert Ide says he’s ready to retire and is using his last few days at the DMV to travel across the state and visit various offices. The Caledonian-Record reports Ide also was celebrated at a large retirement party last week in Montpelier.

Republican Gov. Phil Scott says he’s known Ide since he first ran for state Senate, and he appreciates the work he has done for the administration, wishing him well in retirement.

Ide served in a number of positions in multiple administrations, being tapped to lead the DMV in 2009 — representing it for eight years in Republican and Democratic administrations.
