Pedestrian struck on Smith Valley Road

A Greenwood man was in serious condition Tuesday after being hit by a car while attempting to cross a road late last week in Greenwood.

Joshua Harris, 25, attempted to cross Smith Valley Road west of U.S 31 at about 11:40 p.m. Friday when he was struck by a car driving east, a Greenwood Police Department report said.

Harris was taken to Indiana University Health Methodist Hospital for treatment. He was in serious condition as of Tuesday morning, a hospital spokesperson said.

Police are conducting tests and an investigation that are typical in a serious-injury crash.

The area where Harris was crossing doesn’t have a crosswalk and isn’t well lit, the report said.

The driver, Elton Jones, 42, of Indianapolis, told police that he had been driving east on Smith Valley Road and was in the left turn lane when Harris suddenly appeared in front of his car. He didn’t have time to stop, the report said.

No charges were filed against the driver, the report said.
