4 teens arrested after shots fired

Four teens were arrested and two guns were found after shots were fired in a Center Grove area neighborhood early Saturday morning.

Just after 1:30 a.m., sheriff’s deputies were called to the Wakefield West neighborhood, near State Road 37 and Smith Valley Road, after a resident reported hearing at least two shots fired. The resident also reported seeing a vehicle and driver along Columbia Circle that she had seen shoot out a truck window, according to the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office report.

Deputies blocked off exits from the neighborhood, and stopped a vehicle leaving the neighborhood that matched that description, the report said.

Deputies pulled four people out of the vehicle, ages 13, 16, 17 and 19, and then searched it, finding marijuana and two handguns, including one that was loaded and reported stolen in Marion County. They also found tools, a car battery and speakers inside the vehicle, the report said.

One of the teens had cash that was reported stolen from a vehicle, and all four were carrying flashlights, the report said.

William Edward Vandez Martin, 19, Indianapolis, was arrested on a charge of possession of marijuana, driving without a license and criminal recklessness.

Two of the other teens under age 18 were released to their parents and one was taken to the Johnson County Juvenile Detention Center, the report said.

Martin, 24 Neal Ave., was held at the Johnson County jail on $3,200 bond.
