Pedestrian struck in Greenwood

A man was taken to the hospital for treatment late Friday night when he was struck by a car while attempting to walk across Smith Valley Road west of U.S. 31 in Greenwood.

Traffic in one lane had backed up, and the man, who was going south across Smith Valley Road, was hit while he was walking between cars shortly before midnight, Greenwood Assistant Police Chief Matt Fillenwarth said.

The man was taken to Eskenazi Hospital for treatment, Fillenwarth said. Information on his condition wasn’t available.

The driver isn’t believed to be at fault, but investigators are working to reconstruct the crash, Fillenwarth said.
