JERSEY CITY, N.J. — Workers have finished emergency repairs to a bridge that was damaged by fire in September and closed a portion of Route 139 in Jersey City.
All westbound lanes reopened on Monday, ahead of schedule.
A fire underneath the ramp for Route 139 westbound near Coles Street on Sept. 29 caused substantial structural damage to six longitudinal beams and the underside of the bridge deck.
Crews completed emergency repairs and were able to have four of five lanes open by Oct. 2, but the left two lanes were closed for repairs and only the shoulder was open.
Repairs included the complete reconstruction of the portion of the structure damaged by the fire as well as replacing the bridge deck.
