PHOENIX — Authorities say a 9-year-old girl has died and a 7-year-old boy remains hospitalized in critical condition after the SUV they were riding in collided with a dump truck in south Phoenix.

Phoenix police say the crash occurred about 7 a.m. Monday.

They say the 32-year-old woman who was driving the SUV suffered injuries that weren’t life-threatening.

According to police, the girl was pronounced dead at a hospital.

It was unclear if the SUV driver was the mother of either child.

Police didn’t immediately release the name of the woman or the two children.

They say the dump truck driver remained at the scene and showed no signs of impairment.
