Area athletes earn All-State nods

Fourteen Johnson County players were among those named when the Indiana Football Coaches Association released its 2017 All-State teams over the weekend.

Defensive end Austin Daming of Center Grove and linebacker Tim Johns of Greenwood were among those named to the IFCA Top 50, honoring the best players from all schools.

Greenwood, which won its first regional title since 1990, also had a pair of representatives on the Class 4A teams. Defensive lineman Nick Young was a Senior All-State pick, while linebacker Bryce Taylor was on the Junior All-State team.

Sectional champion Center Grove had five players chosen for the 6A teams. Offensive lineman A.J. Snow and defensive linemen were Senior All-State selections, while three Trojans were Junior All-State honorees — defensive lineman Lucas Hunter, punter P.J. Buck and freshman running back Carson Steele.

Whiteland running back Ryan Hammond was on the Class 5A Senior All-State squad, as was Roncalli receiver Jacob Luedeman. Making the 5A Junior All-State team were Whiteland running back Jake Perry, Franklin linebacker Clayton Coll, Franklin kicker Spencer Downhour and Roncalli defensive lineman John Harris.

Indian Creek’s Isaiah Lacey was named to the Class 3A Junior All-State team as a defensive lineman.
