Lancers earn upset

Edinburgh pulled away for a 43-31 triumph against Class A No. 7 Oldenburg Academy in its home-opener Friday night. The win improves the Lancers to 2-1.

Warriors fall short

Whiteland couldn’t complete its fourth-quarter comeback bid and dropped a third consecutive close decision, a 69-65 setback at Plainfield on Friday.

Riley Higdon and Brennan Neal paced the Warriors (0-3, 0-1 Mid-State) with 17 and 16 points, respectively.

Cubs drop game

Franklin lost at Decatur Central on Friday 71-62 in its first Mid-State Conference game of the season. The setback drops the Grizzly Cubs to 0-2 overall.

Girls Basketball

Trojans win in rout

Cassidy Hardin scored 17 points and Ella Thompson added 17 as Center Grove pulled away from Lawrence Central for a 56-35 victory Friday night.

Claire Rake chipped in with 10 points for the Trojans (8-1, 2-0 MIC).

Franklin victorious

Franklin pulled away late for a 52-43 victory at Decatur Central on Friday night, snapping a six-game losing streak.

Hailee Robbins led the Grizzly Cubs (3-6, 1-0 Mid-State) with 16 points, while Maya Elliott added 10.

Fleet receives honor

Fresh off leading the Franklin College women’s soccer team to its first NCAA Division III tournament berth, junior Maddie Fleet was named a second-team All-American this week by the United Coaches Association.

Fleet, a third-team selection last season, led the Grizzlies with 25 goals and six assists this fall.
