Janet Edmondson Schafstall

FRANKLIN

Janet Edmondson Schafstall, 73, passed away on November 29, 2017. Born Janet Elizabeth Edmondson on February 13, 1944 in Indianapolis, she was the daughter of the late John and Ruth (Cummings) Edmondson.

Janet graduated from Franklin High School in 1962 and Franklin College in 1967 with a degree in Elementary Education. She married Robert Donald Schafstall, Jr. on August 29, 1965 at the First Baptist Church in Franklin, IN. She taught at Webb Elementary School and spent a number of years pursuing volunteer work in the Franklin community. She was a member of the Tri-Kappa service organization and Franklin Woman’s Study Club, served on the board of the American Cancer Society and led the March of Dimes campaign for several years. She was also the first-founding Vice-President of the Johnson County Community Foundation. Janet was elected four times to the Franklin Community School Board and also served on the Franklin College Alumni Council.

In earlier years, Janet and her husband enjoyed traveling the US and abroad, and also greatly enjoyed attending Indianapolis Indians baseball games. She was proud to say she traveled all over the country to attend the first 25 consecutive Triple-A All-Star games with her husband and good friends. She was a wonderful cook and artist. In later years, she greatly enjoyed painting and creating artwork with her dear friends.

Janet was preceded in death by her parents, her brother John E. Edmondson, and her uncle and aunt, Joseph and Martha Bridwell.

Survivors include her loving husband of 52 years, Robert, her sons Robert H. Schafstall (Kim) of Franklin and Joseph E. Schafstall (Marianne) of San Diego, CA, her daughter Libby Conley (Andrew) of Carmel, IN, and her six grandchildren: Grace and Emily Schafstall of Franklin, Joseph W. and Stephanie Schafstall of San Diego, CA, and Phoebe and Cameron Conley of Carmel, IN. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Sally Edmondson of Geneva, IL.

Flinn and Maguire Funeral Home in Franklin is assisting the family with arrangements. The family is planning a private memorial.
