Another honor for IU’s Oakes

Indiana’s Griffin Oakes, who earned All-Big Ten first-team honors Wednesday, was named the league’s Bakken-Andersen Kicker of the Year on Thursday.

The Greenwood alumnus became the third two-time winner of the award.

Oakes hit 16 of 17 field goals in his final season, including hit last 11, and 38 of 39 PATs. Both missed kicks were blocked.

Roncalli comes up short

Heritage Christian handed Roncalli a 54-46 defeat Thursday night. The loss drops the Rebels to 4-4 heading into next week’s Marion County tournament.

Rebels earn sweep

Roncalli coasted to a clean sweep of Lawrence Central on Thursday. The Rebels took the girls meet, 122-57, while the boys were a 111-68 winner.

Rebels hire new coach

Roncalli announced the hiring of Robyn Witty as the school’s new girls cross-country coach Thursday. Witty, who is also an assistant track coach for the Rebels, was a Division III All-American runner at Franklin College, where she was an assistant coach from 2013 to 2016.
