FRANKLIN
Wanda Lou Nichols, 72, passed away November 21, 2017 at her home in Franklin after a long battle with breast cancer.
Wanda was born on August 12, 1945 in Ritner, Wayne County, Kentucky to Theo Vaughn and Minnie Abbott Vaughn. She moved to Indianapolis, Indiana with her family in 1957, where she worked at the Ben Franklin Five and Dime in Brightwood and met her future husband thanks to Wayne Vaughn. She married Michael J. Nichols on June 17, 1972 in Indianapolis. They resided on the east side of Indianapolis for 38 years where they raised their two children. They moved to Franklin, Indiana in 2012 to be closer to family. She was a member at Open Door Fellowship Church.
Along the way she battled breast cancer three times. First time in June 1988, second time in July 1996. She was able to defeat the cancer twice, however the third time proved to be too much.
Family was very important to her, especially her grandchildren. She loved to return home for reunions, visit the old homestead and catch up with family. She was very compassionate with everyone and made sure you did not go without. She enjoyed working outside in her flower beds where she could grow just about anything. We never did find out who stole the red gazing ball.
Wanda is survived by her husband of 45 years and two children and their spouses, Robin (Jay) Lewis and Michael "Tommy" (Kelly) Nichols and two grandchildren, Isaiah "Zaiah" and Aaron "Bubba Joe". She is also survived by her six brothers and their wives, Wendell, Conley (Carole), Ronald (Patty), Frank (Rose), Wayne (Lisa) and Kenney and 20 nieces and nephews and 37 great nieces and nephews.
Wanda is preceded in death by her parents, Theo and Minnie, one brother, Carlos and three sisters, Mary Helen, Ethel Marie and Glenna Sue and sister-in-law, Margie Coffey Vaughn.
A celebration of life service will be held on December 1, 2017 at 6:30pm at Jessen Funeral Home in Whiteland, Indiana. Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm to the time of the service.
