Man fires gun during argument

A Greenwood man was arrested after police said he fired a gun during an argument on Thanksgiving.

Eric Carey, 44, was arrested on charges of criminal recklessness, unlawful possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon and pointing a firearm.

Witnesses told police that Carey had gotten into an argument with a relative around 7 p.m. Thursday at a house along Greenwood Street and that they had heard a gunshot, a Greenwood Police Department report said.

When officers arrived, witnesses pointed out the vehicle Carey was in, and police stopped it, the report said.

Carey initially denied firing a gun, but later told officers that he had drawn the gun to scare his relative and didn’t believe it was loaded, the report said.

Carey, 525 S. Greenwood St., was arrested and taken to the Johnson County jail, where he was held on $11,100 bond.
