SPRINGHILL, La. — Louisiana police say a high-school football player has been shot and killed.

News media report that Springhill police identified him as 17-year-old Jaylen Thomas of North Webster High School.

Police Chief Will Lynd tells KTBS-TV and KSLA-TV that at least 16 shots were fired from a 45-caliber pistol Monday night, and police are looking for an adult suspect.

He says the shooting was behind Brown Upper Middle School and near Harrison Chapel Baptist Church, and tells KTBS that it was just out of range of the church’s security cameras.

Football coach John Ware tells The Times that although the junior running back broke his leg in the third week of the season and had a rod in that leg, he attended every practice on the sidelines.
