Michael W. Karns

GREENWOOD

Michael W. Karns, 38, Greenwood, passed away November 24, 2017, in Franciscan Hospice House, Indianapolis. Mike was born February 1, 1979, in Beech Grove, to James W. and Pamela J. (Matthews) Karns, who both survive.

He graduated from Center Grove High School in 1997, where he excelled as a student athlete. He lettered in basketball, track, and also played soccer for many years. Michael was also a graduate of Indiana University. He worked for Old National Bank in Bloomington and more recently as a financial navigator for IU Health – IU Hospital and Methodist Emergency Department. Mike’s true aspiration was to be a career firefighter, and he had begun working towards a career as an EMT and paramedic. He attended Saints Francis & Clare Catholic Church and enjoyed Christian rock music. He will be fondly remembered by a loving family and many friends.

Survivors include his parents, Jim and Pam Karns of Greenwood; brother, Jeffrey (Amber) Karns of Greenwood; sister, Amanda (Kyle) Cartheuser of Oklahoma; nieces and nephews, Braeden and Emma Karns; Jackson and Leah Cartheuser; a host of aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 28, 2017, 5 to 8 p.m. in the Daniel F. O’Riley Funeral Home, 6107 S. East Street. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Wednesday, November 29, 2017, in SS Francis & Clare Catholic Church, Greenwood. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
