Franklin grad Parmer eclipses 1,000 points in Pomeroys’ victory

Former Franklin Community High School girls basketball player Tara Parmer became the latest player to reach 1,000 career points at St. Mary-of-the-Woods.

The senior guard achieved the milestone with her 27-point performance in the Pomeroys’ 82-72 victory against Blackburn College. Parmer also dished out four assists and made all 12 of her attempts from the free throw line in the win.

Evansville volleyball player Addie Payne had a kill in the Aces’ 3-0 loss at Illinois State.

CENTER GROVE

Army linebacker Alex Aukerman is making his final season of college football a memorable one. He finished the Black Knights’ wild 52-49 loss at North Texas with seven tackles, including two for loss. Aukerman heads into his final Army-Navy showdown Dec. 9 in Philadelphia as Army’s third-leading tackler this season with 58. His 14.5 tackles for loss for a total of 73 yards are both team highs.

Sophomore defender Nicole Jansen has started all 21 matches this season for Marian University’s 14th-ranked women’s soccer team.

The Knights own a record of 16-3-3 entering today’s opening round of the NAIA tournament. They are scheduled to face top-ranked Martin Methodist in Orange Beach, Alabama.

Junior swimmer Caroline Sheehan placed sixth in both the 500-yard freestyle and 400 individual medley for the University of Cincinnati, which won its Bearcat Midseason Invitational.

Holy Cross women’s basketball player Jessica Norris scored a total of 15 points and collected 14 rebounds in a pair of losses for her team.

Western Illinois fullback Max Norris helped the Leathernecks close the regular season with an 8-3 record after defeating Southern Illinois, 28-14. Norris led his team in rushing with 68 yards, including a 17-yard touchdown run.

The University of Indianapolis had its dream football season come to a close with a 27-24 home loss to Harding in the Division II playoffs. Senior defensive tackle Dillon Dallas had a tackle and Jordan Bedan started at right tackle in their final games in a Greyhound uniform.

Top-ranked and defending NAIA national champion St. Francis opened its postseason with a 26-21 win against No. 15 Benedictine College. Starting along the offensive line for the Cougars were seniors Alex Woods and Austin Smogor.

Freshman defensive back Russ Yeast collected a tackle for the Louisville football team in its 56-10 home win against Syracuse.

Stanford defensive end Jovan Swann had three tackles as the Cardinal defeated rival Cal, 17-14.

Defensive lineman Cameron Tidd picked up a tackle in Vanderbilt’s 45-17 loss in football to Missouri.

Freshman Titus McCoy had a kickoff return for 19 yards in Indiana State’s season-ending 41-3 loss at Northern Iowa.

Junior guard/forward Regan Wentland finished with four points, four rebounds and an assist in Indiana State’s 86-57 loss at IUPUI in women’s basketball.

Backup guard Michael Benkert contributed five points in Belmont’s 90-77 win against Seattle in men’s basketball. The Bruins started the season 4-1, with Benkert averaging 1.6 points per contest.

Lipscomb reserve point guard Lauren Rau, a redshirt freshman, produced a total of nine points, nine assists and four steals in losses to Ball State, Butler and Middle Tennessee State.

Illinois State warmed up for the Missouri Valley Conference volleyball tournament by closing the regular season with wins against Indiana State and Evansville. Junior middle blocker Ali Line totaled 11 kills and two digs for the Red Birds (20-11).

GREENWOOD

Sophomore guard Holly Hoopingarner led all scorers with 23 points as the IUPUI women’s basketball team downed Indiana State, 86-57. She also picked up three rebounds in the win.

Kole Stogner had three kickoff returns, with a long of 47 yards, in Franklin College’s 35-34 overtime loss at Wartburg College in the opening round of the NCAA Division III football playoffs.

Indiana placekicker Griffin Oakes made all five point-after attempts and field goals of 20 and 26 yards in the Hoosiers’ 41-0 home rout of Rutgers.
