LUDLOW, Vt. — Community members of two Vermont towns are working to create a new school to replace a high school that’s slated to be closed.
The Rutland Herald reports a merger vote that would close Black River High School is scheduled on Tuesday. Black River has seen decreasing attendance in recent years.
Residents of Ludlow and Mount Holly have formed the Black River Independent School Committee. Members of BRISC hope to keep schools in each community and preserve school choice to avoid long commutes for students. The group hopes to replace Black River with another independent school.
