Hog roast helps bring happy holidays to local families

An upcoming hog roast lunch will help needy families this Christmas.

The Jim Rhoade’s Memorial Hog Roast is 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Nov. 30 at the Johnson County Fairgrounds, 250 Fairground St., Franklin. The lunch will be at Scott Hall.

Lunch is free, however, donations will be taken to benefit the Johnson County Good Cheer Fund and Interchurch Food Pantry. The Franklin Rotary Club organizes the annual event. Malone Catering in Indianapolis donates most of the meal, with Indian Creek High School’s FFA contributing pork chops and ice cream.

The event is named in memory of longtime Franklin resident Jim Rhoades, who started the event. Rhoades, a Franklin Rotary Club member, owned Rhoades True Value Hardware in Franklin, where he hosted the event in the business’ parking lot for many years. Rhoades also was a former Johnson County commissioner.
