Apartments planned in Greenwood

A new 180-unit apartment complex has been approved in Greenwood.

The Garrett Companies, a Greenwood-based multifamily development company, plans to build the apartments along Greenwood Springs Drive and Greenwood Springs Boulevard, near Emerson Avenue and County Line Road.

The Greenwood City Council voted 7-1 to approve rezoning a six-acre property for the project. Council member David Hopper voted against it. Brent Corey was absent.

The apartment complex would be across the street from the company’s Greenwood headquarters and would be their first project in Indiana, a company representative said.

Apartment sizes will range from 775-square-foot, one-bedroom units to 1,400-square-foot, three-bedroom units with rent prices ranging from $1,100 to $1,700 a month, a company representative said.

A one-bedroom apartment in Greenwood cost an average of $653 a month in 2016, according to data from Tikijian Associates, an Indianapolis-based brokerage firm specializing in apartments.
