ST. JOHNSBURY, Vt. — A Vermont judge has ordered that seized weapons should be returned to a man accused of threatening his girlfriend.
A judge in Caledonia Superior Court granted a defense motion that requested guns and ammunition seized from Richard Yu would be returned to him. The Caledonian-Record reports St. Johnsbury police say Yu is currently charged with possession of narcotics.
He was initially charged with assault, but the charge has since been dismissed. Police initially refused Yu’s request to have his guns returned to him, because of his suspected drug use.
The judge found that there was not enough evidence to show Yu had used the drugs he is accused of possessing.
St. Johnsbury police contacted federal officials, who have advised they get Yu to submit to a drug test.
