Police seek help finding thief

Greenwood police are looking for the public’s help finding a person who broke into a gun shop earlier this month.

About 2:45 a.m. Nov. 15, someone used a sledgehammer to break through the two-layered roof and drop into Elmoreā€™s Firearms on State Road 135 in Greenwood. In less than two minutes, the person got in and out, taking with them seven handguns and two long guns, investigators said.

The thief was caught on surveillance cameras in the store. And while the person is covered up with a sweatshirt, mask and gloves, police hope the unique pattern of the sweatshirt will be recognizable by someone who knows the thief, according to Greenwood police.

TheĀ Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives is offering a $2,500 reward for information, and the National Shooting Sports Foundation is matching that reward, for a total of $5,000.
