COLUMBUS, Ohio — Police in Ohio say an unknown person fired several shots at officers while they were on a traffic stop.
Columbus police say no one was injured in the shooting Wednesday and police didn’t return fire.
A police statement says an officer had pulled over a motorist for driving a suspicious vehicle just before 6 a.m. Police say backup had arrived when someone appeared from between two houses and fired upon the officers and the stopped vehicle.
The statement says one officer was leaning into the passenger window of the vehicle at the time. Police say the passenger side of the vehicle was struck by gunfire that narrowly missed the officer and the driver.
The shooter fled the scene.
Police didn’t say why the vehicle they stopped had appeared suspicious.
