Boys Basketball

Lancers win opener

New head coach Keith Witty was victorious in his debut as Edinburgh topped Southwestern (Shelby) 56-47 on the road Tuesday night.

The Lancers will be back in action Saturday at Indian Creek.

Girls basketball

Braves fall to Beech Grove

Indian Creek suffered a 72-57 home loss to Beech Grove on Tuesday despite 15 points from Katie Burkman and 10 from Caitlyn Snyder.

The Braves (3-4) are now off until Dec. 1, when they host Owen Valley.

Swimming and diving

Trojans split with Plainfield

Center Grove’s boys won their season-opening meet against Plainfield 101-79. The Trojan girls lost 99-87.

Baseball

Lancers hire new coach

Edinburgh announced the hiring of new varsity baseball coach Greg Mose at a school board meeting Monday night. Mose replaces Jason Burton, who resigned last month.

Burton will continue to coach football for the Lancers. Mose, a first-year teacher at Edinburgh, was an assistant on Burton’s football staff this past season.

The Edinburgh baseball team won 12 games and a sectional championship last spring.

Franklin College

Women’s hoop falls in opener

Despite a valiant effort that included 20 points from Mallory Cast, Franklin dropped its women’s basketball opener Tuesday against No. 15 DePauw 69-62.

Kelsey Smith added 15 points for the Grizzlies, who erased an early 17-point deficit in the first half before being edged down the stretch.
