SANTA CLARA, Calif. — The San Francisco 49ers have claimed defensive lineman Sheldon Day off waivers.

Day had been let go last week by Jacksonville and was claimed Monday by the 49ers.

Day was a fourth-round pick out of Notre Dame in 2016. He played 22 games the past two seasons with 11 tackles, two sacks and one pass defensed. Day played six games this season.

San Francisco defensive coordinator Robert Saleh is familiar with Day, having been an assistant with the Jaguars last season.
