Women’s soccer falls in NCAA showdown

The Franklin College women’s soccer team took a lead early in the second half, but couldn’t survive a late Arcadia flurry in a 3-1 loss in the first round of the NCAA Division III tournament on Satur- day night.

Clare Lenart broke a scoreless tie in the 54th minute for the Grizzlies (14-5), collecting her eighth goal of the season off a Maddie Fleet assist.

That tally held up until Arcadia’s Kayla Haberbosch tied it with 11:08 left.

Mia Bertolami notched the game-winner with 7:28 to go, and the Knights added an insurance goal in the final minute.

This was Franklin’s first NCAA appearance. Lenart heads up a group of seven graduating seniors.
