CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Charleston police say one man was fatally shot after first shooting an officer and hitting his bulletproof vest when police responded to a burglary report late Thursday in West Virginia.

WCHS-TV reports that one other suspect was shot and wounded and three more were arrested and are charged with burglary and robbery. Two of them are also accused of attempted murder.

Authorities say Patrolman Seth Johnson was treated at a hospital and released.

The man fatally shot was identified as Seth Hardwick.

Police say Crishawn Perkins has been hospitalized.
