NORFOLK, Va. — Authorities in Virginia say a 17-year-old male is in critical condition after he was found unresponsive in a courthouse holding cell.
Lt. Colonel Michael O’Toole of the Norfolk Sheriff’s Office said in a statement Thursday that foul play is not suspected.
O’Toole did not release details regarding why the teen was being held in the city’s downtown courthouse. The teen was found at about 11 a.m., in the holding cell of a 5th floor courtroom.
He was found by a sheriff’s deputy. O’Toole said office staff responded with CPR before paramedics rushed him to a hospital.
Norfolk Police will conduct an investigation what happened to the teen. The Norfolk Sheriff’s Office will investigate whether deputies and staff followed its policy and procedures.
