A Johnson County man lost $60,000 in a scam after sending money to a woman he was dating online who said she needed the funds to get access to her multi-million-dollar inheritance.
The man, who is married, told deputies that he was in the process of getting a divorce and had been dating a woman from Virginia he had met online about four months ago. He said he had texted and emailed the woman, but they had never met in person, a Johnson County Sheriff’s Office report said.
The woman had requested that the man send her $60,000, which would be used to pay legal services for her to get access to her inheritance, and the man sent the check to her a month ago, the report said.
