CLEVELAND — A former Cleveland transit bus driver who struck a 69-year-old woman in a crosswalk and was charged in her death has tearfully apologized to the woman’s family in court.
Forty-six-year-old Antoinette Peterkin begged for the family’s forgiveness Monday at her sentencing.
A judge suspended her jail term and ordered her to serve a year of probation and community service at a hospital.
Peterkin previously pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of vehicular homicide for striking Joan Kuendig, of Shaker Heights, last December.
Kuendig’s children told the judge they didn’t want Peterkin sent to jail.
A Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority review determined Peterkin slowed down but failed to completely stop before turning. She was fired after the collision.
