Area organizations, schools offer events to honor veterans

Veterans Day is today, and area organizations have planned events to honor them.

» Artcraft Theatre will host “Honoring Our Heroes,” at 5 p.m. today at the theater, 57 N. Main St., Franklin. Lasting Impressions, a performing group based out of Columbus, will perform. Tickets are $15, but the performance is free for veterans. The show will take audience back to 1940s New York City, where the group will try and recreate the music and atmosphere of a World War II canteen.

» Greenwood VFW Post No. 5864 will sell poppies to help commemorate Veterans Day. Poppies will be sold starting at 9 a.m. today at Kroger stores in Greenwood and the southside, Rural King, 860 U.S. 31 South, Greenwood, Tractor Supply, 1460 U.S. 31, Greenwood and the Walmart and Sam’s Clubs at Emerson Avenue and County Line Road. Money from the sales will go to the post’s relief fund for veterans.

» American Legion Post No. 233, 500 Memorial Drive, Edinburgh, is hosting a dinner at 2 p.m. Sunday. Entertainment will be provided from 3 to 6 p.m. by Steve Jeffris.

» American Legion Post No. 205, 1200 Park Ave., Franklin will have a dinner at 7 p.m. today at the post. Reservations should be made by calling the post at (317) 738-9934.

» Christ Our Shepherd Church of the Brethren, 857 N. State Road 135, Greenwood, is having a dinner and program to celebrate veterans at 5 p.m. Sunday. Lieutenant Commander James E. Patton will speak. Patton served a year with members of the Oregon National Guard. He was an embedded team trainer with the Afghan National Army in Kandahar, Afghanistan.
