MANCHESTER, N.Y. — Authorities in western New York say a woman has been injured after slamming her car into a fuel tanker that exploded.

Police say the crash happened in Manchester around 2:15 p.m. Thursday. Authorities say a woman drove into a propane tanker that was filling up a tank at a home, causing an explosion that engulfed her vehicle.

Officials say the truck driver heard the explosion, pulled the woman out of her vehicle and dragged her to safety. The woman was rushed to Strong Memorial Hospital where she is being treated for severe burns. Officials say the truck driver suffered minor injuries.

The Manchester Fire Department put out the fire.

Police commended the truck driver’s actions.

An investigation continues.
