Traffic stop leads to arrest

Staff Reports

A Nineveh man was arrested on drug-related charges after a traffic stop in Columbus this week.

A police officer saw a vehicle driven by Kyle L. Stewart, 32, Nineveh, driving without taillights at 11:40 p.m. Monday, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.

The officer stopped the vehicle and smelled narcotics inside it while speaking to the vehicle’s three occupants, Harris said. Officers found methamphetamine near the vehicle’s center console, Harris said.

Stewart was arrested on preliminary charges of possession of methamphetamine and maintaining a common nuisance, Harris said. The other two occupants were released, Harris said.

Stewart was held in the Bartholomew County Jail in lieu of $57,500 bond.
