Man arrested on battery charge after stabbing incident

One man is recovering in the hospital and another was arrested after a dispute that led to a stabbing in Greenwood, police said.

James W. Clark, 18, Indianapolis, was arrested on a charge of resisting law enforcement and battery on a public safety official.

Just before midnight Sunday night, a Greenwood police officer stopped to break up a dispute near Madison Avenue and Fry Road. One of the men involved in the dispute had been stabbed, and was later taken to a hospital in Indianapolis, Greenwood Assistant Police Chief Matt Fillenwarth said.

Clark, who also was involved in the dispute, ran from officers and then tried to fight with an officer who caught up with him to arrest him, according to the Greenwood Police Department report.

Police still are investigating to determine the details of what happened, Fillenwarth said.

Clark, 2514 Sunscape Circle, was arrested and taken to the Johnson County jail, where he was held on $2,200 bond.
