Residents and business owners will have a chance to provide feedback on a plan to reconstruct Madison Avenue at a public meeting next week.
Earlier this year, city officials unveiled a $12.5 million plan to reconstruct Madison Avenue from Smith Valley Road to County Line Road in Greenwood. The Greenwood Redevelopment Commission approved spending $300,000 to pay a consultant to create designs for the first section of the project — from Pearl Street to Noble Street — where work could begin in 2018, if funding is approved.
The plan calls for the center turn lane to be removed, with the additional space being used to widen sidewalks and add a bike lane. Business owners along Madison Avenue have raised concerns about the proposed elimination of the center turn lane and how that could impact access to their businesses.
A public meeting about the project is planned from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Greenwood city building at 300 S. Madison Ave.
