Emma Jean Drake

RICHMOND, INDIANA

Emma Jean Drake, age 88, of Richmond, Indiana, died Thursday, November 2, 2017, at Reid Health.

Born November 14, 1928, in Richmond, Indiana, to Robert and Mary Pearl Bates Martin, Jean had lived in this community most of her life. She was a 1947 graduate of Richmond High School. In 1948 Jean was united in marriage to Louis Drake. This marriage was blessed with two children, Steve and Janice. She worked for Kroger for 25-30 years in the meat department; Johnson County Treasurer’s Office in Franklin, Indiana; co-owner of Drake’s Food Mart; and later worked as an office manager for Litton Industries in Richmond. Jean was a member of First Church of the Nazarene and Eastern Star. She enjoyed making flower arrangements, sewing, spending time with family and friends, and most of all being a mother.

Survivors include her daughter, Janice Nolte of Bowie, Texas; son, Steve (Cindy) Drake of Lexington, Kentucky; grandchildren, Amanda Loveless, Stephanie Drake, Megan Drake, and Jamie Drake; great-grandchildren, Sydney Loveless, Haley Drake, Connor Loveless, and Austin Drake; sister, Joann (Howard) Crowell of Richmond; nieces; nephews; cousins; and many friends including special friend, JoAnn Mann.

She was preceded in death by her parents; Louis Drake; sister, Louise Martin; and brothers, Dick, Bob, and Duane Martin.

Visitation for Emma Jean Drake will be from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 7, 2017, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 8, 2017, at the First Church of the Nazarene, 1600 Chester Boulevard, Richmond, with Rev. Ron Karkosky officiating. Burial will be in Earlham Cemetery.
