Woman sentenced in battery case

A Greenwood woman was sentenced to probation after pleading guilty in a battery case against a child she was caring for.

Robin N. Wilson, 29, pleaded guilty to a felony charge of battery against a person less than 14 years old.

She was sentenced to a year on probation.

Wilson was arrested earlier this year after an 8-year-old child she was caring for told police that Wilson had picked her up by pinching her under her arms, threw her onto her bed and spanked her at least 40 times, according to police reports.

A department of child services caseworker took photos of what police described as substantial bruising on the child that lasted for several days, the report said.

Wilson told police that she had continually spanked the child because it had taken 30 minutes and several attempts to get the child to go to bed, the report said.

She said she was sorry for what she had done, the report said.
