CLAREMONT, N.C. — A man has been arrested and charged in the shooting death of a man in the doorway of a North Carolina home.

Local media outlets reported that the Catawba County Sheriff’s Office arrested 45-year-old Tony Allen Brittain II of Claremont on Sunday morning and charged him with the shooting death.

Deputies said 28-year-old Kevin Ray Hefner died when he was shot Saturday night at his home in Claremont.

Brittain was being held in the Catawba County jail. It was not known if he has an attorney.

Witnesses told deputies that Hefner answered a knock on his front door and was shot in the chest. There was no word on a motive for the shooting.
