Braves fall to No. 8 Artesians

Miss Basketball candidate Kayana Traylor scored 25 points as Class 4A No. 8 Martinsville posted a 62-44 victory at Indian Creek on Saturday.

Addie Rund was the lone player in double figures for the Braves (0-2), scoring 14 points.

Baseball

Greenwood standout to sign today

Jordan Martin, who has started as a pitcher and outfielder for the Greenwood baseball team since his freshman season, will sign a letter of intent today to play college baseball at Iowa Western Community College beginning next year.

Entering his senior season with the Woodmen, Martin ranks third on the school’s career strikeouts list with 181. He was an all-conference pick last spring.

Franklin College

Women’s soccer team wins HCAC tourney

After reaching the HCAC tournament final and losing each of the last two years, Franklin College broke through for its first championship Saturday, beating Mount St. Joseph 2-0.

Taylor McDaniel got the Grizzlies (14-4) on the board in the 51st minute by putting home a rebound after a Clare Lenart free kick. Maddie Fleet helped seal the deal in the 68th minute with her 25th goal of the season.

Franklin’s first-round opponent for the NCAA Division III tournament will be revealed during this afternoon’s selection show.
