William ‘Eddie’ Edwin Legan

WHITELAND

William Edwin “Eddie” Legan, 79, passed away on Wednesday, November 1st, 2017 in Indianapolis. He was a resident of Whiteland, Indiana.

Eddie was born on July 30th, 1938 in East Columbus, Indiana to William Aubrey and Sara E. Legan. He married Trula J. “Trudy” Burchfield, his loving wife on December 1, 1956. She preceded him in passing on September 9, 2013. Eddie is survived by their children, Stephen Legan of Greenwood, Duane (Betty) Legan of Holly Springs, North Carolina, Daniel (Becky) Legan of Lebanon, Rebecca Legan of Indianapolis and Dawn (Jim) Grant of Franklin; fourteen grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren and two sisters, Carolyn Prosser of Franklin and Faye Kunz of Columbus, Ohio. He was preceded in passing by his parents, William Aubrey and Sara Legan.

He was a 1956 graduate of Franklin Community High School. Eddie proudly served his country for over thirty years in the active and reserve forces, retiring as a Chief Petty Officer in the United States Navy Reserves. He served aboard the USS Shenandoah during his active service in the United States Navy.

He was employed by Eli Lilly & Company in Indianapolis for most of his adult life and retired after forty plus years of dedicated service as a Senior Lab Research Technician.

He attended Northern Park Baptist Church in Greenwood. Eddie was an active member of the Fleet Reserve Association of the United States Navy. He enjoyed volunteering at the Veterans Hospital in Indianapolis.

Rev. Alan Pierce will conduct a Celebration of Eddie’s Life on Saturday, November 4th at 1:00 p.m. at Flinn and Maguire Funeral Home, 2898 North Morton Street, (U.S. 31 North) in Franklin with visitation for family and friends on Saturday, from 11:00 a.m. to time of service at the funeral home. Burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery where military honors will be conducted by the United States Navy and the Franklin American Legion Post No. 205.
