Healthy eating class planned at hospital

A southside hospital is offering a class to teach you how to indulge in holiday foods in a healthy manner.

“Say Yes to Healthy Holiday Feasting,” will be 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Nov. 14 at the Franciscan Health Heart Center, 8111 S. Emerson Ave., Indianapolis.

Participants will learn how to prepare traditional dishes with less fat and sugar and will learn tools to avoid overeating at holiday gatherings.

Local hospital gets stroke certification

Johnson Memorial Hospital has received an accreditation for providing quality care after a stroke.

The county hospital was given the Stroke Ready Certification by the Healthcare Facility Accreditation Program, the nation’s original independent, accreditation organization recognized by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.

Accreditation shows that Johnson Memorial Health is providing high quality stroke care as determined by an independent, external process of evaluation. The hospital’s physicians also received special training to recognize and treat stroke patients, including administering a medication to eligible patients.
