Marching bands prepare for state

Two local marching bands will march for a state championship this weekend.

The Center Grove High School marching band and Greenwood Community High School’s Marching Woodmen and Irish Guard earned berths to the Indiana State School Music Association State Finals at their semistate competition over the weekend. Marching bands must do well at regional and semistate competition to earn the right to march at the state finals at Lucas Oil Stadium.

Whiteland Community High School’s Marching Warriors marched for semistate competition but did not earn a bid to the state competition. Franklin Community High School’s marching band and boosters conducted the Class D semistate competition at their school.

Center Grove and Greenwood will march against nine other bands in their class in Indianapolis.

The Marching Woodmen compete in Class B and will march at 1:54 p.m. Center Grove competes in Class A and will march at 9:18 p.m.

Tickets to see the bands perform are $20 for adults and $18 for students and preschoolers.
