TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Authorities say two teenagers have been charged in connection with the fatal shooting of a 69-year-old Vietnam veteran in Alabama.

News outlets report 18-year-olds Cody Williams and Fernandez Britton Jr. were taken into custody Friday. Tuscaloosa County Metro Homicide Unit commander Capt. Gary Hood says Britton was charged with first-degree burglary and Williams was charged with murder.

Lester Williams was found shot to death in his bed on July 18. Authorities found the victim while responding to a call about a possible murder at the location. When authorities arrived, investigators said the front door was kicked in.

Hood offered no further information on what led authorities to the suspects or a potential motive in the killing. It’s unclear if the teenagers have lawyers.
