Pursuit ends in cornfield

A man was arrested in a field north of Trafalgar after officers said he led them on a pursuit from Morgan County into Johnson County early Friday morning.

Kevin A. Deubner, 28, Indianapolis, was arrested on charges of resisting law enforcement, criminal recklessness with a vehicle, reckless driving, operating under the influence of alcohol or drugs, driving while suspended, aggressive driving, auto theft, operating while intoxicated endangering a person and failure to appear.

A deputy near the intersection of State Road 37 and Henderson Ford Road saw Deubner driving what police later found was a stolen vehicle around 1 a.m. Friday morning, Morgan County Sheriff’s Office Capt. Brent Worth said.

Deubner led officers on a chase from State Road 37 to State Road 252 and then to State Road 135, Worth said.

After hitting stop sticks in the road, the vehicle continued on State Road 135 before coming to a stop near County Road 300S, where Deubner ran into a corn field, a Johnson County Sheriff’s Office report said.

Deputies went door-to-door to notify homeowners of the situation, Johnson County Sheriff Doug Cox said.

Deubner was caught after being tracked down by a police dog, the report said. He was arrested and taken to the Morgan County jail, where he was held on $19,650 bond.
