WATERBURY CENTER, Vt. — Firefighters say they don’t know what started an overnight blaze that destroyed an abandoned building in Waterbury Center, Vermont.

The fire at a building known on Vermont Route 100 was reported just after 2 a.m. Friday.

Chief Gary Dillon says the building was fully engulfed in flames when crews arrived.

Route 100, the main north-south highway between Stowe and Interstate 89, was closed for several hours.

Dillon says Vermont fire investigators have been called to the scene to investigate the cause of the fire.

Dillon says he expects the remains of the building will be torn down Friday.
