LAFAYETTE, La. — Fire officials say a 2-year-old child has died in a house fire in Louisiana.

The Advocate reports the toddler died in a house fire in Lafayette on Thursday morning. The Lafayette Fire Department said in a news release that the toddler’s parents and an infant survived the blaze. The child’s identity has not been released.

Officials say the victim’s parents frantically searched the home for the toddler, who had been watching television. However, the smoke and the flames became too intense. Firefighters found the couple and the baby outside as the house burned.
