Edinburgh woman gets 5 years

An Edinburgh woman was sentenced to prison after pleading guilty to dealing methamphetamine while caring for an infant.

Jessica B. Sheckles, 36, was sentenced to five years in prison by Bartholomew Superior Court 1 Judge Jim Worton. The sentence is being served at the same time as a separate case in Johnson County. Sheckles began serving that time at the Rockville Correctional Facility near Terre Haute after being sentenced in September on charges of drug dealing and inmate trafficking.

On Jan. 7, 2016, Sheckles sold methamphetamine inside an Edinburgh home in an undercover drug deal, according to court records. During the deal, she asked someone in the home to watch her baby.

Because the child was there, Sheckles faced a higher level felony charge, punishable by up to 12 years in prison, the document said.
