DOVER, Vt. — A regional waste management authority in Vermont could lose another member town as voters in Dover decide whether to follow Winhall and Whitingham in leaving the district.
The Brattleboro Reformer reports that a special town meeting is being held Friday to vote on whether Dover should terminate membership in the Windham Solid Waste Management District effective July 1.
Rising costs were cited when Whitingham approved its exit from the district. Winhall noted a change in recycling policy.
District Executive Director Bob Spencer says he met with local officials to show them what responsibilities they would have to take on in leaving the district, saying some costs can be difficult for a town to bear on its own.
